From December 21st 2001, AgCentral will be bound by new sections of the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988 listed in the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000. This amendment sets out new principles concerning the protection of private information.

This statement provides an overview of how AgCentral protects the privacy of your personal information.

What information does AgCentral collect?

Personal information collected by AgCentral may include your name, date of birth, gender, address, spouse’s name and contact details (including phone, fax, mobile and e-mail). AgCentral also collects information on individuals such as company directors and officers (where the company is AgCentral’s customer) as well as personal financial information – detailed below.

Personal Financial Information

When you apply for credit with AgCentral, personal financial information is obtained from credit references that you provide AgCentral. This information is required by AgCentral’s trade insurer and is obtained to decide whether or not you are likely to repay. The decision is based on your current financial position and your credit history and is undertaken by AgCentral or our trade insurer.

Where the privacy act applies, AgCentral can only obtain credit information about you if we have your consent. Alternatively, AgCentral will only provide trade information to a credit-reporting agency with your prior consent.

Obtaining your consent

AgCentral will in most cases obtain your consent to obtain your personal information when you first begin trading with AgCentral (or, if that is not possible, as soon thereafter). Credit reporting information is only obtained once AgCentral receives a complete, signed copy of the AgCentral Account Application unless you otherwise authorise.
